Brian Haggard's Crazy Quilt Retreat

When and where

The retreat will be held on Friday, September 9; Saturday, September 10 and Sunday, September 11, 2011 on the beautiful St. Mary of the Woods College campus.  The college is near Terre Haute, Indiana and is about 2 hours west of Indianapolis.

The rooms will be available to check-in at 3:00 p.m. on Friday and our class will convene at 4:00 p.m.  We'll have dinner with the students that evening then return to the classroom to finish up the machine piecing part of the project.

On Saturday we'll start around 9:00 a.m. with the fun part--designing the embroidery and embellishment of your quilt.  All of Saturday is devoted to the artistic aspect of your crazy quilt--a little drawing, a little embroidery, a little chit-chat, a bit of silk ribbon and, hopefully, a whole lot of laughing.  We'll break for lunch and dinner but will work fairly late into the evening.

On Sunday we'll meet about 9:00 a.m. again to put borders and the finishing touches on your quilt.  We'll all have brunch at 11:30.  After brunch we'll return to the guest house to pack up and say so-long.

The Facilities

We'll be staying in the Goodwin Guest House on the St. Mary's campus.  The Guest House has 20 rooms, a kitchen and a lounge.  The rooms each have two beds and share a bathroom with one other room.  The Guest House is very clean and neat and has TV, Internet and phones but think "dorm" and not "spa."

Our classroom is in the library building that's about 50 feet across a small parking lot from the Guest House.   The room is spacious with plenty of work space and good lighting.

Most of our meals will be provided by the St. Mary's dining service.  We'll eat Friday dinner, Saturday lunch and Sunday brunch in the beautiful O'Shaughnessy Dining Hall.  Saturday's dinner will be catered for our group.  We will provide breakfast on both Saturday and Sunday in the Guest House.
